Today I am launching the Karibu Hospitality Foundation, something I have wanted to do for a long time.
I have been fortunate in my career, with real opportunities and managers who took the time to coach me. I am now in a position to offer the same to talented young people in Africa who do not have those privileges.
Each year, Karibu will fund a talented young person from Tanzania to study at Kenya Utalii College in Nairobi, which I believe is the best hospitality school in Africa. The scholarship covers tuition, housing, food, English classes where needed and everything else required for three years. Each scholar will have a mentor, and I will continue to support them throughout their careers through my professional network.
Karibu is starting in Pangani, through Pangani Cliffs Lodge, where the first scholar will be selected at a Talent Day. The aim is for them to begin at college in October 2027, and over time to expand to other parts of Tanzania and Africa.
I am currently appointing trustees and opening the foundation’s bank account, and I hope to start accepting donations before the end of the year. If you would like to be part of this from the start, please sign up and I will let you know as soon as donations open.
Thank you for reading.
